Here are some photographs of the construction phase. 

Construction of the upper layers - "baseboards on baseboards" to some

As you can see, the upper boards with track underneath are hinged for access. It's not hard to lift without the decking on yet.

With the decking and facias it looks like this. The track will enter a tunnel towards the foreground and go under the upper baseboard.

This shows another "lifting" section: under Eastleigh Depot. the front folds down, so simple problems can be resolved without removing the rolling stock.

This shows the multiple track levels. With very shallow gradients, it isn't that obvious though. The track to the foreground left is at the lowest level; another track at this level runs to the middle of the foreground. A track rising from left to right is visible further back. Finally at the back on the right is the track into Portsmouth station, where it stops because Portsmouth's baseboard is raised.
