The CAD program that I use supports the concept of layers: this allows the design to be built up in sections with only certain kinds of detail visible in each. There are a lot of different ways that the layer feature can be used but what I've done is to use it to plan:

Room outlines;
- Main baseboard woodwork;
- Upper level baseboard woodwork
- "Main" track loop, fiddle yard and Petersfield station;
- Eastleigh depot;
- Clanfield station;
- Portsmouth Station;
- Signals on "main" line;
- Signals on upper levels;
- Wiring on "main" line;
- Wiring on Upper levels;
- Location of electronics.
The best way to view the design is to print some selected views:

History of Changes
v1: Original "completed" design
v2: changes to fiddle yard to provide a 5th track loop in both directions, and an interface to a remote railway.
v3: changes ot Clanfield station, and minor reconfiguration of the junction to the left of Petersfield.
