This is the home of the South Downs Railway - a fictitious, modern image (ish) railway set in southern England modelled in N gauge. It is a DCC (to be) automatically controlled layout of 15'x10' total size.

The layout currently has its "main" track loop completed: this is a "folded dog bone" arrangement around 3 and a half sides of a rectangle. Two stations and an oil terminal still need to be added.

28/10/2008: Computer installed, ready for automatic control!

28/6/2008: whole track loop achieved! We've been running trains all afternoon - without stopping where the rails end - at last!

28/5/2008: fiddle yard started. This has been wiating for all of the materials to come together (approx £400 worth of ttrack and electronics in this one module - it shows up in the monthly finances)

1/12/2007: Tomix track cleaners purchased. These wagons offer several ways of cleaning track, and are electrically powered from it.

What's Next?

  • Start heading towards computer control, while working on the reliability of the track and rolling stock

  • Test operation with full-length and full-weight trains

  • Add a CML Electronics DTM30 control panel
